More of Iasi...

This morning, Kala and I went to a Roman orthodox church service. It was very different than I expected – there were no lights – the only lights were candles in the front and lanterns scattered around. All of the women were on one side and the men were on the other. The women covered their heads in scarves. The priest would come out of the door in the front and people would hand him their lit candles – which I believe were prayer candles. The church was absolutely beautiful – walls adorned with Byzantine art. We went with a woman named Maria who we met here in Iasi – she is a jr. high or elementary school history teacher. She was so kind to let us go with her to the service.

Then, she took us for a walk around Iasi – to places that I had seen passing by in buses, but hadn’t really seen. There are some beautiful places in Iasi that I had no idea about.

Well, another week down! We’ll have to see what exciting things this next week will bring! I’m slightly sad that I will be missing out on trick or treating, dressing up, apple cider and donuts, candy corns and Halloween parties. Oh well, this is life!

If I was visiting Iasi, I would definitely stay at the Hotel Traian. Sometimes I think about just taking a day off and getting a hotel room for a hot shower, fresh breakfast, clean sheets, a tv...

Cute Maria with us - she showed us her apartment. I realized I have not seen an apartment or house other than my own and the other girls apartment since I have been here. I forgot what it looked like to have pictures on the walls and a tablecloth in the kitchen!

One of my favorite things about Romania: If you can't carry a bag, ask your friend to take a strap. I see this everyday and it makes me laugh.

I took a quick trip to Prague last weekend - just kidding! I wish. Isn't this beautiful though? The little room where the light on was the pastry shop we went to on Friday. Fabulous!

This is the University of Alexandra Ioan Cuza - a famous Romanian ruler (I think). It was huge! I don't know if I told you this before, but Iasi houses 6 or 7 universities! That is so many students!

I saw this on the street today. This, is absolutely wonderful. I wish the walls of my room looked like this!

Sora Genevieve and I. I told her I liked her hat. She took it off and put it on my head, so we took a picture. She is one of my favorite sisters in the branch! Last week, we played "Apa in Fata" or water in the face for FHE. She was a good sport about it, and played even with getting splashed in the face a few times! Don't mind the sweatshirt I wear everyday. I promise I do wash it!

Can you guess what this is? A classroom in the university. I forgot what it's like to sit in a classroom. Only 2 more months and I will start "normal" school again!
