Sick again. I didn’t throw up today, but I had a really bad stomachache and diarrhea all morning. I woke up early, showered and tried to eat breakfast (I seriously had to force down the cereal and juice) because I wanted to go to church today. I felt like it may be a source of strength and would be something familiar in this oh so very foreign place. The sister missionaries came to pick us up to walk us to church. At that moment, as I was sitting in front of the toilet feeling sick again, I figured it probably wasn’t the best idea to go to church.
My dad is a vegetarian. I’m seriously considering becoming one and joining him. After eating my chicken yesterday, any meat sounds so revolting. While grocery shopping yesterday, I figured I could survive on sandwiches for lunch for the next week. However, mayo (Atleast I think that is what I bought), chicken or turkey (I don’t know what the label says) and cheese doesn’t sound so good. However, one of my roomates decided to cook up a few onions, bell peppers and some more vegetables. I cannot tell you how good that smelled. It smelled like home! Like the pizza toppings before a good Saturday night veggie pizza!
It must have brought back my appetite and I was able to eat a banana and stir fry some vegetables. Delicioso!
I am getting used to my apartment though. The shower goes from hot to cold in an instant and I’m pretty sure I have almost burnt myself a few times. We also have a second bathroom that we tried to put some air freshener in the first day because it smells horrible, but to no avail. We haven’t opened the door since and I’m thinking we probably will just use the one bathroom! Actually, that is a lie...I opened it up yesterday to see if it had a window in it, and I almost threw up again because of the smell. I keep forgetting we don’t have a microwave, dish disposal, dryer, and can’t use tap water. Sorry to be so negative.
As Aretha Franklin says, “You better accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative.” Let me expound on all of the things I love about Romania so far.
I love hearing the honks outside and looking out my window at night. It is absolutely amazing. I also love the architecture and art. I wasn’t able to see it yesterday, but I saw pictures from my roommates. I love the underground fresh market across the street that has stands of fresh flowers. I love the language – as difficult as it may be, it is unique and a very pretty language. I love the fresh flower boxes and clotheslines outside all of the balconies. I love not being tied down to a cell phone. I love how some Romanians just don’t do their hair, it makes me feel right at home when I don’t have a straightener or a diffuser and I’m starting to look like Hagrid from Harry Potter. I love how the people in the branch are so dedicated. I love the pigeons that walk along my balcony all day .I love all of the cute old people in Romania.
Yesterday and today, I have had some long hard thinking time. It just is starting to sink in that I am in Romania! I live here. This is my home for the next 3 months. This little quaint town in Eastern Europe will always have a special place in my heart. (Sorry that was cheesy, don't be suprised if I crochet a pillow with that on it lol!)
This post is not exciting considering I have just been cooped up inside. I finally went outside to take the garbage outside:)
On the upside, here are a few pictures the other girls took when they went traveling around the town. Enjoy!
Oh, and of course, our little plane we had to sneak a picture of.
