It's no fun to be sick...

Last night, we had planned to take a long walk around the city today to get ourselves more familiar with where things are, churches, cool places to visit, etc. Some of the boys in the branch asked us if we wanted to play basketball tomorrow. I was game! So, I tried sleeping last night, but I just couldn't quite get comfortable and fall asleep. I must have finally fallen asleep at about 2 in the morning, but woke up only a few hours later to a hard core stomachache. After a few minutes, I could tell how my day was going to be. For the next 6-7 hours I spent the morning running in and out of the bathroom throwing up. I have no idea what I could have gotten sick from - I have washed all my fruits and vegetables since I have been here and have not had any tap water, only bottled water. Last night, we did go eat some Romanian food in the food court of the Moldova Mall down the street. It was some sort of chicken with a tomato-based sauce and rice. Seriously, when the girl put it on my plate I had to think twice about eating it. Though it didn't look appetizing, it tasted delicious. At least at the time lol. I'm thinking that if I got something, it must have been from that last night. Definitely won't be getting that dish again!

The girls decided to go out today with Mihai and Petru (the boys in the branch) to tour the city, so I just stayed in and rested all day, which was alright with me considering I was not feeling so red hot! My roommates brought me home a big 2 liter bottle of Sprite (I was thrilled that they had sprite here!) and some soup and crackers later in the afternoon. It was our first attempt using our gas stove. They are fabulous!

Hours later, I am regaining my strength and hopefully won't be sick anymore for the rest of the trip! Cross your fingers!

Here are some photos from our adventures so far...

Disclaimer: I was out of luggage or have been sickie, so don't judge my appearance in these photos lol

The view from our apartment window, right outside my bedroom. I love the tall buildings and pigeons! And, I love seeing the cute little old ladies outside their balconies hanging laundry with a beautiful scarf around their head!

This is right outside our apartment building where we insert our key to unlock the gate. People who come to visit have to ring up to our apartment for access. I just now found out that I have to hold down the "Vorbiti" or speak button! No wonder everyone kept repeating themselves over and over when I answered!

Because we live on the 6th floor, we typically take the elevator. If you happen to come visit me, don't be alarmed to find that the door to the elevator looks like a door to a toxic radiation room and is roughly the size of an airplane bathroom. You can only fit 3 people very tightly. We love the elevator!

Yep, this is Megan and I packed tightly into the elevator. There's room for one more...!

Here is my dinner last night that I thought was good until this morning :(

Our kitchen. Slightly miniature.

Just to show you, this is me and my 5'1 self standing next to the fridge.

It is definitely no American super-size me fridge with two large doors and a water and ice cube dispenser on one side.

This is a pic of my living quarter/bedroom. I will say I am lucky to have my own room. 2 of the girls share in the next bedroom and the other one will sleep on the couch in the front room. Couch to myself = fabulous. I spread a fleece blanket over the couch to reduce the chance of getting bed bugs I have heard so much about. Normally, I don't have the little rolling table in front of my bed, but I thought it would be easier to have quick access to my small pharmacy, sprite, crackers, etc.

Well, that is all for today. Hopefully the bug I got will be gone and I can enjoy tomorrow - our first Sunday here in Romania with the branch members at the villa (the second floor of a house)! I'm excited! They have already been super helpful so far. Our first day of being here, the sister missionaries and Andreea Stoica from the branch came over to see if we needed anything. Then, the boys took everyone on a tour of the city today. Today, I am so grateful to be a member of the church.
