Last day with my boys...

Last day heading to the orphanage.

This is what you see at the bus stop in Tomesti. No wonder I have ruined two pairs of pants walking on the mud roads here!

You can't tell from the pic, but the snowflakes were huge!

This is actually my orphanage apartment I work at. Past the first tree is where the entrance where I ring in everyday. The little row of windows on the first floor is the "balcony/sun room" where we would play on sunny days.

So I’m pretty sure the storm that didn’t hit Utah, hit Iasi. I woke up to some crazy huge snowflakes this morning! Romania’s first official snow day! Good thing I have boots! It was absolutely freezing this morning. I had two sweatshirts, a coat, scarf, jeans and underarmour under my jeans and STILL cold. It made me excited because snow = christmas and christmas = I will be home! I listened to Bing Crosby's fantastic White Christmas song on the bus to Tomesti.

Today was a good day, but sad. I said bye to my kids and the last of my workers. It wasn’t a dramatic goodbye, it was a simple goodbye, but I think it will hit me next week when I’m not bundling up to head to Tomesti every morning. Today I brought crayons and paper and colored with the boys. I also sat on a wet couch that the worker had told me she had cleaned after D had peed, but I don’t actually think she did. Oh well, what’s another day sitting on a peed on couch right?!

It was sad to do my regular routine, eat lunch, go change my scrubs and then say goodbye to the kids. I gave each of them a big hug and lots of kisses and held them tight, but to them, it was “pa, jessie” as if I was coming back on Monday. There is no way for these kids to understand that I’m leaving for good and I think that was the hardest part for me.

Lena made me pumpkin pie. She wasn’t there, so I’m assuming she had dropped it off early this morning. When they say pie here, it’s actually a cake, but it was delicious. She called me on the phone (on my workers phone) to tell me goodbye again and to ask me if I liked the pie. I seriously am going to miss her!

I’ve been working on my research paper for the last few hours – can’t say it’s my favorite thing to do. I’m leaving Monday morning, so I’m trying to get all of my classwork done. The research paper is all I have left so I think I’m going to wake up early and work on it most of the day. I halfway packed my stuff yesterday – I know, I’m anxious Angie, but I wanted to try and tidy things up a little at a time and figure out how I’m going to pack everything to get home. I’m worried about flying solo. I know it’s not a big deal, but I’m no frequent flyer…it will be an adventure right? I have lived in Romania for the past 3 months…pretty sure I can fly for two days by myself. Pray for good weather!
