Last Monday...

I walked in today and had 3 workers there today. I’m thinking that they were maybe hiring another person because there was a woman in the other room and they took turns talking to her for a while and then they showed her around the apartment. I guess I’ll find out later this week maybe?

R and D were at school, so there were 3 boys there.  I know I’ve already said this before, but G is my absolute favorite. He looks a lot younger than he really is, and he seriously is like a miniature man – but he is so DANG cute. Today was so fun! He has a slight obsession with cats and dogs right now, but can’t figure out which one makes which noises. Dogs say “hum, hum” here. I find it so strange that animals say different things in different countries! I’ve been working on trying to teach him that dogs say “hum hum” and not cats. Today, rather than be strict about being on the floor (There are some unusual superstitions that all relate to the floor), I decided to just throw that out the window for the day and you better believe that both me and G were on the ground “hum-humming” like dogs for half of the morning. He was as happy as could be though!

V kept throwing toys today – more than he ever does. It was getting out of control. I don’t know how to teach him that it isn’t ok to do that. I have to sit one on one with him and try and teach him – which is super difficult. It was a bit frustrating, especially when I got hit in the face with one of those weird fisher price tube stacker things (what are those even called – the little colored innertube shaped toys on a little pole thing?!)!

I gave the three workers their thank you cards and pictures I had put together. They were so excited they gave me lots of hugs and kisses and compared one another’s pictures – it made me happy to see how excited and how grateful a simple thank you card and picture was. (They had no idea it took me 2 hours to try and translate everything I wanted to say to them into Romanian and to make sure my writing was legible for them to read). It’s funny because when you say you are from the united states, people will often say the first thing that pops into their mind from America. Sometimes they will say “Obama!” or they will ask you a place as if living in the United States means you have seen everything in the United states like “Empire State Building” or something random. The new worker Maryanna, the one who taught me the funny penguin dance a few weeks ago asked me where I lived. I told her “Utah”. She asked me where that was. Well, how to explain Utah when I have no idea how to say “west” or anything like that. I asked her if she knew the Grand Canyon. She nodded and responded with an excited “Da!” which means yes. I told her I lived near there. That was the best I could do. She asked me if I had a picture of the grand canyon with me. Sure – I carry one in my pocket! I told her I would bring one for her. I found one on the internet the other day and printed it out and gave it to her with her thank you card. You better believe it was like Christmas! She kept looking at it and saying “frumos!” and would kiss the picture and kiss me over and over. It was hilarious! She told me she was excited to go hang it up in her house! So great!

I went to my last FHE here. It was a lot of fun to just hangout with some of the branch members. I’m sad to be leaving the branch. As much as church in Romanian is difficult, attending the branch and being involved in activities here has really strengthened my testimony.  I was thinking about it yesterday – I have forgotten what church is like back home. I’m definitely going to be more grateful that I can actually understand the speakers and lessons!
